This site was designed by myself about 12 years ago in college. I figured out from trial and error that my then 1 year old had a Milk Protein Intolerance. I was young, I was scared, I thought he'd never live a normal life and that there was nothing for him to eat... I started this site to help other parents who have just gotten the shocking news, or even experienced parents that are just looking for encouragement.
There are a TON of food options, but also just cutting out cheese, butter, ice cream, yogurt, and milk is not enough to tackle a milk intolerance. I have gathered a lot of useful information to help guide you through this change in your life. To successfully see if you or your child has a dairy intolerance you must remove ALL TRACES of dairy for at least one month before trialing anything with any type of dairy in it. This includes breastfeeding trials.
Also "Milk Free Recipes" will take you to a separate site where I will be posting all of our favorite recipes. I cook, but I keep it simple, and after 12+ years of keeping my son dairy free I've learned to cook dairy free. I hope you enjoy my recipes and feel free to contact me with any questions, or for a specific recipe. I like to make desserts since about 100% of desserts at restaurants are made with some form of dairy.
Please feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of any page, leave your email address if you'd like a response. Use "at dot com" to avoid spam bots if you would like. I'd love some feedback on the new look!
Plus I'm always looking for contributors! Have some safe foods to add to the list? Have a recipe to share? Find something that I haven't convered? Please, contact me and we'll chat about getting your info up on the site.
I currently run this site out of my own pocket. I have avoided advertising and asking for donations. BUT, in the wake of this economy, if you are interested in advertising to get some traffic to your site I will add your button or a link to your FAMILY friendly site for a very small fee. This will be used to help cover the domain expense. Click here for more information.
UPDATE: I have a 2 year old now, and it seems that he is also dairy intolerant. He's also allergic to soy. I would really like him to outgrow the soy issue!! I don't care so much about the dairy part. In other news... My 13 year old has mostly outgrown his dairy intolerance!! He was tested through http://enterolab.com and had no IgA's!!!!!
So he doesn't like cheese unless it's on pizza or nachos, and doesn't even want to try ice cream, but loves milk chocolate. Occasionally if he eats way too much pizza... he feels it the next day. I don't have to watch him like a hawk anymore, so that's a relief. BUT, he was just diagnosed with ADD. It's a shame that his dairy consumption over the last 2 years has caused him to develop ADD. I know it would come to this, but he's 13 and will eat what he wants when he's not with me. Especially now that he's not feeling physical pain from it. I'm hoping he realizes soon that it really is the cheese he's eating. So for me,
The baby on the other hand, wants to eat what everyone else is eating and his diet is literally limited to fresh meats, produce, and a small handful of organic cookies and crackers. He's getting very bored of his diet options and it's breaking my heart.
As always, feel free to email me at admin@milkfreekids.com
